Memorial Service Planned for Sewickley Resident Who Battled Rare Form of Cancer

A memorial service for Dawn Patterson will be held at noon Saturday, April 27 at the Sewickley United Methodist Church, 337 Broad St.

A memorial service is planned for a Sewickley resident who had battled a rare form of cancer since last summer.

Dawn B. (Generals) Patterson, 44, of Sewickley passed away on Wednesday April 24, with her family at her side.

Dawn found out she had a rare form of cancer in July and told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review in March that family members were amazed with the amount of support they received from the community.

“We are so grateful that people have been so kind throughout the entire process,” she told the Trib.

The outpouring of support came in many ways from the Sewickley community. Churches offered prayers, sports teams and individuals held fundraisers, neighbors cooked meals and friends lended support.

Sewickley resident Barbara Cooley Thaw set up and maintained a CaringBridge website, providing information and updates on Dawn's status. Resident Anna Torrance established a Helping Hands website to help provide meals. 

Dawn practiced law as a attorney in the Wealth Management Division and was a member of Triumph Baptist Church. 

The CaringBridge website states that Dawn planned on walking June 1 in the survivor event at the annual Quaker Valley Relay for Life

Born in Paterson, NJ, she was daughter of Rosetta (Williams) Caldwell and the late Harold Generals; wife to Robert Patterson Jr. and loving mother to Bianca, Smith, Rachel Smith, and Robert Patterson III.

She was the sister of Linda Caldwell, Rosalind (Arthur) Stanley, Kenneth (Sharon) Caldwell, Walter (Loretta) Caldwell, Debra, Peninna, Tocquinna, and Twilah Generals and the late Harold Caldwell and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 27th at the Sewickley United Methodist Church, 337 Broad St. at 12:00 PM. Arrangements by Copeland's of Sewickley.
