Goodbye to Bailey & Bailey

Open since 1995, retiring owners of the Sewickley boutique plan to close shop Friday.

At the end of September the doors to a staple will be closing for good.

While lovely crops of are popping up everywhere, it is always sad to see an old favorite go. At the same time it is a happy new beginning for the storeowners.

The ladies at are moving into retirement and getting to begin a whole new chapter of their lives.

For 16 years, owners Elsa Cabiya and Holly Miller have cultivated the perfect blend of sure-to-be favorites all in one spot. One could always find designer denim, the perfect pant, charming accessories, literally everything from a basic tee to evening wear. Swoon-worthy names graced every space in the shop.

The trademark fashion drawings that graced their ads, invitations and store front now will become a piece of local history.

It all started with a trip to Heinz Hall and a shopping trip to Shadyside. Fast friends and college roommates, Cabiya and Miller sealed what would be a long-term deal.

After diverging retail paths, they came together with their experience and a business plan. In 1995 they hung up their shingle. While friendship and business might seem like a recipe for disaster these two claimed trust, respect and relying on one another’s strengths to be the key to their longevity.

Cabiya once said, “Our customer is of the utmost importance to us, and we feel very lucky to make a living doing something we love and are excited to do it every day."

This philosophy served them well. New customers always found that special something. Faithful shoppers were never disappointed. Perhaps such success had something to do with buying on both coasts with their customers in mind, or maybe it was because there was always something on sale. The shop has amazing bargains in advance of its closing.

It could have been the unique blend of items available or the charm of Cabiya and Miller themselves.

With their departure upon us, Miller had this to say:

“After an amazing 16 years of co-owning B&B, I am looking forward to many new adventures. Going to my son's mountain bike races in North Carolina, returning to the yoga studio, cooking healthy meals for my family... It truly is bittersweet for me. I have the greatest memories of the store and our customers.

"Most days were filled with fashion and humor. You don't usually get that in retail. I think we always kept the atmosphere happy for customers while shopping. I hope they enjoyed the experience as much as we did," she said.

"I will miss the trips to NY and LA. We always managed to have a good time while working the shows. We have also made lifelong friends in the biz. I know Elsa and I will keep in touch with many of our reps and customers. Most are like family to us!”
