Upside Down Flag Protests Disgrace America
Would Those Who Have Sought Demonstrate Their Contempt for President Obama Have Engaged in the Same Tactic Against Any White President?
No one is more disappointed than me that big-government/free spending/massive entitlement society/cradle-to-grave care President Barack Obama was re-elected, but as one who respects the office of the President, I am repulsed that some small-minded individuals/haters have chosen to fly our treasured American flag upside down in protest.
An upside down American flag is a distress signal, not a tool to be manipulated to make political statements. Displaying it upside down offends many, prominently including veterans who fought for our country.
Like it or not, Barack Obama will be the president of all of us until January 20, 2017. We can fight him and hate him every day until then, or we can accept that he is our leader and ask our Senators and Representatives, Democrat and Republican, to work with him to accomplish for the American people. I support efforts to bring our people together for the betterment of a troubled nation. Compromise and breaking campaign pledges will be necessary in order for this to occur. If the upside down flag mentality is found to exist in Congress, then we are doomed.
The news accounts I have viewed indicate that all of the upside down flag "patriots" are middle aged or older white men. I wonder if any of these "gentlemen" would have been inclined to engage in this form of protest if the president were not of mixed race. I suspect not. They are disgracing our nation and keeping the flames of hatred burning.
