A Monroeville man charged with burglary said he was "looking for a friend" when he stumbled into a woman's apartment at 3:30 a.m. one morning and was subsequently tackled, according to Moon Township police.
Joseph Douglas Stoberski, 20, now faces a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 8 in Coraopolis District Court.
Moon police said Stoberski walked into a woman's Kris Drive apartment in the early morning of Dec. 22, startling the apartment's residents and prompting the woman's boyfriend to tackle Stoberski in the apartment.
In addition to burglary, Stoberski is also charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and underage drinking in connection to the incident.
The woman told police she awoke after 3 a.m. to find a man standing in her bedroom and rifling through her dresser drawer, according to a complaint.
After the man left the bedroom, the woman at first believed he was her teenage son, but alerted her boyfriend that an unknown man was in the apartment after she found her son asleep in his bed, according to the complaint.
The couple confronted Stoberski, who they found standing in the kitchen.
Wagner wrote that Stoberski did not identify himself to the couple and offered no explanation as to why he was in the apartment.
"Oh, it's just me. I'm sorry, man. I'll go now," he told the couple, according to the complaint.
The woman's boyfriend wrestled Stoberski to the ground until police arrived.
Stoberski told police that he had been at a party in a nearby apartment, left to go to an area bar and was dropped off at some point later at the entrance of the Thorn Run apartment complex. He said he believed the victim's apartment belonged to his friend, according to the complaint.
Police said Stoberski, who was visibly intoxicated when police arrived, could not account for where he was between 2 a.m., the latest he could have been served alcohol at a bar, and 3:30 a.m., when the incident occurred.
No items were missing, though police found a cellular phone and bra belonging to the apartment's residents in the kitchen, where the couple found Stoberski standing.
No one was injured in the incident and Stoberski was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
