Injured Bicyclist Rushed to Hospital After Crashing into Parked Car

Calder Pegden suffered severe injuries after going through a car windshield, police said.

A bicyclist who crashed into a parked car and through a windshield was transported this afternoon to Allegheny General Hospital, where he is currently being evaluated.

Officer Kenneth Wolf said Calder Pegden was riding northbound on Beaver Street when the crash happened near Grimes Street, in front of the , 222 Beaver St.

Pegden's bike struck the back of a parked car, hurling him head first through the rear windshield, shattering the glass.

Wolf said Pegden of Walnut Street suffered “severe” facial injuries, including a large head gash, but was conscious and alert after the crash.

“He will need quite a bit of stitches,” Wolf said.

A hospital spokeswoman said Pegden was still being evaluated about 4:30 p.m.

Car driver Andrew Inkrote, 20, of Robinson Township, said he saw Pegden coming toward him about 30 to 40 feet away. Inkrote said he decided to sit in the car and wait until the bike passed, but it never did.

“He hit the corner [of the bumper] and went face first into the windshield,” Inkrote said.

Police responded at 12:55 p.m. to the crash. Beaver Street was shut down for clean up and reopened about a half-hour later.
