The following people were charged and scheduled for preliminary hearings March 23 at District Judge Robert Ford's office in Leetsdale:

Reduced

  • John D. Betton, 39, of Ambridge, charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. said at 12:22 a.m. Jan. 30, Betton was a passenger in a Chevy van that police stopped at the BP Station off Route 65 for speeding. Police asked Betton to step from the vehicle to be identified and patted down. Police said a backup officer from Leetsdale saw Betton remove a cigarette pack from inside his coat pocket and place it on the dashboard of the vehicle. Police said they found a small plastic bag containing two Diazepam pills, an anti-anxiety drug, for which Betton doesn’t have a prescription.  Charges later were reduced to a non-traffic citation. Betton was ordered to pay $300 in costs and $100 in restitution.
