District Court: DUIs and Reduced Charges

The following people were charged and scheduled for preliminary hearings Jan. 31 at in Leetsdale:

Waived

  • Brian Baker, 47, of Charleroi, charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving and reckless driving. State police reported Baker was northbound Sept. 15 on Interstate 79 in Franklin Park when his car was involved in a two-vehicle crash. Police said Baker was interviewed in the back of the ambulance. Police said Baker saw the Mt. Nebo exit, then looked back at the road, and in turn struck another car. His vehicle went down the grass median and crossed the southbound lanes. Police said lab results showed Baker had oxycodone in his blood at the time of the crash.
  • Kathryn McGlynn, 43, of Pittsburgh, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. reported that McGlynn stopped on Dec. 20 at a business in the 200 block of Route 65 and asked for directions to West Virginia. The employee thought she might be intoxicated and called police. Police said McGlynn was sitting in her vehicle getting ready to leave the parking space when police arrived. She agreed to take a blood-alcohol test. Police did not report the results.
  • Joseph Baumgartner, 18, of Franklin Park, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Franklin Park police reported Baumgartner was stopped Dec. 3 after his vehicle was seen crossing the double yellow lines several times on Nicholson Road. Police said Baumgartner took a breathalyzer test that resulted in a reading of 0.094 percent, above the state’s legal limit.

  • Richard Gavalya, 42, of Leet Township, charged with simple assault and harassment. said Gavalya on Jan. 13 threw a television remote control at a woman and punched her in the eye. Charges were reduced to a non-traffic charge and Gavalya was ordered to pay $300 plus court fees.
