I-79 Motorcycle Crash Kills Two in Robinson

Two people from New York, who have not been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 47-year-old man and his female passenger were killed this morning on Interstate 79 in Robinson Township after their motorcycle went off the road and they were thrown from the bike, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

State police have not released the names of the male driver from North Tonawanda, NY, or his female passenger, also 47, of Lockport, NY.

Police said the two were traveling southbound on 79 shortly before 11 a.m. between the Coraopolis and Crafton interchanges, just past the Neville Island Bridge. For  unknown reasons, police said the driver went off the road on the S-curve, into the berm and struck the guide rail.

Police said the bike continued another 5 feet and struck the guide rail again, throwing the couple off onto the berm and underneath the rail.

The bike continued traveling in a southwest direction, coming to a stop in the left lane and on the driver’s side.

Motorists traveling in the area experienced traffic restrictions until about 1 p.m., according to PennDOT.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office pronounced the two dead at the scene. Valley Ambulance Authority, Robinson EMS, and PennDOT assisted state police.
