A former daycare worker with a history of drug arrests is charged with owning child pornography.
Pamela Smallis, 49, of Moon Township, who was charged earlier this year by Moon Police, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"moon-township-police-department"} --> with
The Post-Gazette reported today that "Investigators said they found 33 pictures and two videos of naked children engaged in sexual activity on Ms. Smallis' phone. A woman's voice, identified by investigators as Ms. Smallis', can be heard directing the children in some of the videos', according to a criminal complaint". I've been told that Ms. Smallis also provided child care services out of her home for several years. The question then arises as to who the children in these videos might be - a question that the media will not ask because most will not identify the victims of sex abuse, and rightly so. Still, I would hate to be the parent of a child that received care services from this woman, wondering how, why, and how to go about asking their child about it. It would be nice if the media would at least say this as part of their reporting - something along the lines of, "We know what you're all wondering right now, but it's not going to happen, and here's why". In any event, it was good of Patch to include a contact number for investigators. My thoughts go out to those victimized in this case.
As in all police stories, a link to the department's listing is included, which features contact information. Otherwise, no, we do not identify the victims of sexual abuse or minors involved.
