Police Blotter: Pit Bull Bites Pedestrian; Priest's Mobile Phone Stolen

Sewickley Police supplied the following information; arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A rescued pit bull mix that bit a 71-year-old Sewickley man outside the would be euthanized, borough police reported.

Police said a  resident reported that he was walking in the area of Starbucks on Beaver Street about noon Oct. 23 when he came upon a pit bull mix belonging to Chad Seamon, 36, of Harmony Township, Beaver County. The dog was sitting by a bench in front of the coffee shop.

When the man approached the establishment, the dog suddenly lunged at him, biting him in the area of the lower forearm, police said. The owners were able to restrain the dog and spoke with the man to make sure he was OK, police said. Both sides also exchanged information and the victim was advised to seek medical treatment and to report the incident to police.

Police said the victim had two small bite marks on his arm.

Police said the 4-year-old pit bull/shepherd mix was a rescue animal from the Animal Rescue League shelter in Pittsburgh and had never shown aggressive behavior. Police said the shelter was contacted and the couple was advised to return the animal to the shelter, where it would be euthanized.  Police said the dog was licensed in Beaver County and had a current vaccination.

Sewickley Police reported the following recent incidents.

Suspended plate citation

Sewickley Police stopped a vehicle Oct. 22 on Route 65 after noticing a suspended license plate hanging from the car. Brenden Greene, 25, of Coraopolis, told police he knew the plate was suspended due to an insurance cancellation. Greene was cited with driving with a suspended license plate and the vehicle was towed.

 

Head injury reported

Police responded Oct. 23 to the area of Walnut and Beaver streets for a report of a man who suffered a head injury. Police said the 67-year-old Ambridge man was attempting to cross the street when his feet became tangled in the orange construction barrier tape and he tripped and struck his head on the curb. Valley Ambulance treated the man at the site, then transported him to for an evaluation.

 

Raccoon reported

Police were called at 8:40 p.m. Oct. 24 for a report of a raccoon on the corner of Broad and Thorn streets. The caller thought that perhaps the and wanted it checked out. Police checked the area and found no raccoon.

 

Loose dog reported

Someone reported a large white dog running loose in the 1500 block of Beaver Road. Police checked the area, but did not find the dog.

 

Driver cited

Police cited a Pittsburgh woman following a two-car crash on Route 65 at Boundary Street. Sarah McNally, 24, was cited with careless driving. The crash happened Oct. 25 as Christina Johns was stopped on Route 65 waiting to make a left turn. Police said McNally struck Johns from the back. No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed.

 

Stolen cell phone

Police reported that someone stole a cell phone belonging to a priest at  in Sewickley.

The Rev. Dan Valentine told police he was performing a marriage on Oct. 22 when the Android smartphone was taken sometime between 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.  Police said the phone was worth about $200.
