Police Blotter: A Two-Vehicle Crash and Tire Tampering

Sewickley Police responded to the following recent incidents. Each incident reflects police records and is not an indication of guilt.

Tire tampering

  • Police said someone tampered with a  man’s car, causing the wheels to fall off the vehicle while it was moving. Spencer Meider reported to police Oct. 3 that someone loosened the lug bolts to his tires Oct. 2 while he was at work in . On his way home, police said, the wheels began to shake and one of the tires came off near the intersection of Academy Avenue and Beaver Street. Police said AAA sent a repairman to fix the tire. The repairman told Meider nothing was wrong with his lug bolts, and that the incident was unlikely to have happened unless someone loosened them, police said.

  • Two motorists were taken to the hospital Oct. 3 after a two-vehicle accident on Chadwick Street near the Sewickley Bridge. Police said David Knight, 72, of Beaver Falls, was taken in an ambulance to Heritage Valley Sewickley Hospital. Marianne Cibulas, 58, of Sewickley, complained of abdominal and neck pain following the crash and was taken by private vehicle, police said. Police said Cibulas was northbound on Route 65 at 6:15 p.m. when Knight’s vehicle pulled out in front of her sport utility vehicle and struck his car. Knight was in the southbound turning lane attempting to go left onto Broad Street, police said. Both vehicles were extensively damaged and had to be towed.  Knight was cited for making a left turn and failing to yield to oncoming traffic

Assault reported

  • Police took a report at 4:22 p.m. Oct. 1 for an assault at . Jennice Hill of Aliquippa told police she was visiting her father in the hospital when she got into a fight with her brother, Johnny Hill. She told police her brother grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the ground. Police said she complained of shoulder pain and requested paramedics. She was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Officers went to the hospital to speak to the brother and learned he had already left. Hospital staff told police they did not witness a fight.

Bicycle stolen

  • Someone stole a bicycle Oct. 3 from a a garage in the 600 block of Broad Street. Police said the bicycle recently had been repaired and placed in the garage two days before it was discovered missing. Police said the garage door was not locked. The bicycle is described as a white Giant-brand bike with a gray "Giant" logo. The bike had a black seat and a storage bag under the seat.
