Police Blotter: Car Crashes and Injuries from a Fall

Sewickley Police responded to the following recent incidents. Each incident reflects police records and is not an indication of guilt.

Two residents suffered injuries in two early morning falls on New Year’s Day and were transported to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Police said Garin L. Lee, 48, of Centennial Avenue, suffered head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital’s head trauma unit. Daniel Bollman, 45, of Ohio River Boulevard, suffered a head wound and was transported in a separate ambulance.

Police arrived at 1:11 a.m. Jan. 1 to the area of Centennial and Murrary Street to find Lee lying on the ground and bleeding profusely. Valley Ambulance stabilized her wound.

Police said Lee had been drinking and asked Bollman to carry her home. Police said Bollman, who also had a few drinks, lost his balance and the two fell to the ground. The hospital had no record of them in the system Thursday, according to hospital officials.

Umbrella holder stolen

Someone stole a brass umbrella holder on Jan. 8 from , 555 Beaver St.

Police said a man was loading his van with items from the antique store at about 2:30 p.m. when he put an umbrella holder outside the store in front of the door. When he returned about 15 minutes later, the holder was gone, police said. Police said the umbrella holder is worth about $65.

Public drunkenness

Police charged Charles Butler, 56, of Graham Street with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Jan. 8 after police said he fought with a woman and was found walking at 2:37 a.m. on Centennial Avenue. Police said Butler was highly intoxicated and was taken to the Coraopolis police lock up. He was also advised not to return to the home where the fight occurred or he would be charged with defiant trespass, police said.

Fire reported

Police assisted the fire department at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 7 with a fire at the rear of 308 Hill St., the Ponzo residence. Police said everyone got out of the house and that the family was placed in patrol cars to stay warm. An officer used a garden hose to suppress the fire until the fire department arrived.

Cell phone rescue

Police were called at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 7 to the intersection of Beaver Street and Locust Place for a report of a woman who dropped her cell phone down a sewer grate. Police were able to use a dog leash pole to retrieve the phone.

Vehicle crash reports

Police were dealing with two snow-related accidents in the area of McKown Lane last week. No one was injured following a two-vehicle crash at 7:56 a.m. Jan. 5 northbound on Route 65 at McKown Lane in . Police said Larry Walker, 50, of Wexford, was driving behind Dwight D. Willis, 45, of Allison Park, when Willis suddenly slowed for a turning car, causing Walker’s vehicle to strike his car. Police said the road was wet due to melting snow. 

Officers responded to another two-vehicle crash Jan. 4 at 7:15 a.m. on Beaver Street at McKown Lane. Police said Dolores Kolakowski of Baden was traveling south on Beaver Street and as she went to stop at a stop sign at McKown, her vehicle slid and struck a vehicle driven by Arlene Scalerico of Crescent. Neither driver suffered injuries. Police said the roads were icy due to light snow.

Hit-and-run crash

Police responded at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 3 to the 400 block of Walnut Street for a report of a hit-and-run crash. Police said a resident saw a Jeep sport utility vehicle back up and strike a parked vehicle, causing minor damage. The vehicle then drove away without leaving information, police said.  Officers were able to trace the license plate to a 16-year-old boy in who thought he had struck a curb.

Stray dog report

Police responded at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 3 to the 900 block of Dixon Road for a report of a dog running loose in a yard. An officer walked around for several minutes, but was unable to locate the dog, police said.
