Moon Police summoned the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the armed robbery. Later Sunday afternoon, police went to the Brentwood house to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle.

That prompted Brentwood officers to notify the FBI and then the Allegheny County Police SWAT team, authorities said. Police also shut off streets around the house while the man remained holed up there into the evening, authorities said.

At 9:51 p.m., police fired canisters of tear gas into the house. They took the man into custody at 11:29 p.m. and took him in an ambulance to the hospital.

Neighbors would not comment on the evening's events. Moon police this morning said they would have no information on potential charges until later today.

Witnesses to the bank holdup in Moon described the robber as a white male standing about 5-foot-5, with a beard and what appeared to be a fake moustache. He was wearing a blue bandana on his head, shaded glasses and a red hooded sweatshirt, police said.

The grocery chain remained open and busy throughout the afternoon. Store management declined to comment on the incident.
