Police Search For Suspect in Village Business Thefts

Several Sewickley businesses were targeted, with hundreds of dollars stolen from local employers.

Allegheny County officers and are searching for a man responsible for several thefts in the business district over the weekend and Monday.

Sewickley Police Chief James Ersher said police have a photo of a man they believe is responsible for the crimes.

Police said the man went to several stores attempting to distract employees before stealing cash.

"He enters the stores, starts a conversation with the employee and waits for his opportunity to grab whatever he can and then leave the store," said Sewickley Police Sgt. Dave Mazza.

Video & Audio at 613 Beaver St. reported that $300 was taken from a bank pouch in a back office. On Monday, $900 was stolen from boutique on Beaver, and $150 from on Locust. Other businesses were targeted, but the suspect left empty-handed, police said.

“He went into a couple of stores where he didn’t take anything, just kind of scoping it out,” Ersher said.

The man is described as a white male, medium build, about 5-foot-10 with medium brown hair.

He was wearing tan pants and a light tan shirt when he went into Yankello’s, claiming to be interested in a television set, police said.
