Sewickley Man Charged With Rape, Sexual Assault

Investigators accuse Charles "Chaz" Buswell, 18, of forcing a 16-year-old girl into his home and assaulting her.

A Sewickley man is charged with raping a 16-year-old girl, according to Allegheny County Police detectives.

Charles “Chaz” Buswell, 18, of Railroad Street, is also charged with sexual assault, unlawful restraint and simple assault.

According to a criminal complaint, Allegheny County detectives reported that the girl left her home about 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, to go for a walk when Buswell, an acquaintance, approached her.

Detectives said Buswell convinced the girl to get into his car by telling her he was suicidal and wanted to spend his last day with her. When he drove away, the girl tried to open the car door, but Buswell kept the door locked and refused to let her out, detectives said.

Detectives said the girl told them she was fearful Buswell would harm himself if she continued to try to get out of the car. When Buswell reached his home, he corralled the girl into his house and raped her there, detectives said. The girl told investigators she told him "No" and begged him repeatedly to stop, detectives said.

The girl told police she complained of an upset stomach and Buswell showed her to the bathroom after the assault, according to detectives. She also told police she overheard his father come home while she was in the bathroom, but said Buswell made her hide in the bathroom until he could arrange for a friend to drive her home, detectives said.

The girl told her father, who contacted Sewickley before driving her to Heritage Valley Sewickley . Sewickley Police notified Allegheny County detectives, who went to the hospital at 10:50 p.m. to interview the girl.

Detectives then left the hospital and went to Buswell’s home, detectives said. After they questioned him, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office recommended that charges be filed.

Buswell was jailed on $100,000 straight bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in District Judge 's office.
