Sewickley Motorist Tasered, Jailed After Leading Police on Chase

Police said the suspect's pickup fled when officers tried to pull it over.

A Sewickley man was taken to Allegheny County Jail after a short police chase from Sewickley to Edgeworth that ended with him being Tasered to the ground.

Craig Moore, 28, of Sewickley, is now facing numerous charges, including fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving while suspended, and other summary driving offenses.

According to Sewickley police, officers saw a black pickup shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday traveling north on Chestnut Street with an expired inspection sticker.  Police said the truck accelerated when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over.

The pickup struck a curb several times and was swerving in and out of the right lane, police said.

The driver, whom police later identified as Moore, then turned right onto Quaker Road in Edgeworth without signaling and police said he continued up the road slowing down to a stop just prior to Pine Road.

Police said Moore then bailed out of the pickup and ran as officers chased after shouting for him to stop. Sewickley Patrolman Tom Cross chased Moore on foot while Patrolman Bill Hanlon pursued in a police car. About two yards away, police said Cross caught up to Moore and shouted again to stop or he would be Tasered.

Police said Moore failed to obey orders and was struck in the back with the Taser and suffered a cut to his chin when he hit the ground. He was transported by Valley Ambulance to Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital to have the cut and puncture probes from the Taser cleaned and bandaged.

Police said Moore smelled like marijuana and alcohol, but refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test. Police said he was also driving with a suspended license.

During a search of Moore’s pickup, police said officers found an open container of alcohol in a cup holder.

Moore remained in Allegheny County Jail Monday night unable to post $10,000 bond.
