Sewickley Police Blotter: Hit and Runs and Vehicle Violations

Sewickley Police responded to the following. Each incident reflects police records and is not an indication of guilt.

Vehicle violations

Police stopped a car at 1:25 a.m. Jan. 24 that was riding on a nearly flat tire with burned out license and brake lights. The driver, Jordan Lawson, 21, of Aliquippa, was found to be under suspension and cited for that violation and for driving with an expired inspection and emissions sticker. Police said a passenger, Brandon Wallace, 26, of Ambridge had a warrant out of Beaver County. He was turned over to the Beaver County sheriff’s office. The vehicle was towed, police said.   

Expired sticker

Police stopped a car Jan. 25 on Walnut Street due to an expired inspection sticker. Police said the driver Lori Waldrop, 40, of Harmony Township, was cited for the violation.

Dog violation

A Sewickley resident was cited for failing to confine her dog, the second violation in less than a month. An officer on routine patrol Jan. 25 saw the dog running up the hill on Dickson Road and knew it belonged to Sandra Cook. Police said Cook got control of the dog and brought it back into the house. Police said she was cited Dec. 30 for the same violation.

Vehicle damage

A parked car was damaged Jan. 23 in the borough municipal parking lot. Police said Jay Herring of Aleppo reported at 1:30 p.m. that his vehicle had been parked for a half hour and when he returned he saw three paint scrapes and 6-inch long marks on the passenger side of his car.  A silver vehicle that had been parked next to him was gone, police said.

Welfare check

Officers responded shortly before 2 p.m. Jan. 23 to a stranded motorist on Route 65 just past the Sewickley Speakeasy. A driver with Michigan plates told police her car ran out of gas and she was waiting for a friend to arrive. The officer waited with the woman and her children until the friend came with gas and she was on her way, police said.

Car damage report

Someone sideswiped a parked sport utility vehicle in the 400 block of Beaver Street. Police said the vehicle was parked at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 21 and when the owners returned four hours later, they found the vehicle damaged along the driver's side.

Shots fired report

Police were called to the 800 block of Thorn Street for a report of shots fired in the area. Police checked the area but didn’t find anything. Officers, with information about a possible suicide attempt, went door to door and eventually spoke to a resident who told police a young male lit a firecracker in the area, police said.

Lost purse

Someone lost a small purse the night of Jan. 20 in the area between the Sharp Edge and Chestnut Street. Police described the purse as a small red square canvas purse with a black strap.

Hit and runs

• An 86-year-old woman was involved in a hit-and-run crash on Route 65 near the Haysville intersection, police said. Police said the driver of an unknown car spun out of control at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 21 and struck a car that Barbara Ferrozzutti of Midland was driving. Police said Ferrozzutti’s car was pushed into a median, which caused more damage. Police said she pulled over and the other driver apparently left without exchanging information. No injuries were reported.

• Police responded Jan. 19 to a report of a hit and run in the 300 block of Chadwick Street. Police said a car carrier hauling a Jeep attempted to turn onto White Street and struck a parked vehicle belonging to Linda Hays. Police said Hays witnessed the crash and saw the other driver pause and then drive away. Police were able to track down the driver’s company through the BMW dealership and later identified the driver as Srdjan Mladenovic, 48, of Broadview Heights, OH, police said.
