Sewickley Police Blotter: Public Drunkenness and Criminal Mischief

Sewickley police responded to the following recent incidents.

cited a man Friday with public drunkenness after he was found sleeping on a bench at Beaver and Broad streets.

Police woke up Drayton Hammond, 49, of McKees Rocks, who had difficulty speaking and appeared to be intoxicated, police said. Officers found an empty pint of vodka in his back pocket. He was evaluated by medics before being taken to the Coraopolis Police Department’s lock up.

Hours before, police stopped Kevin Loy, 48, of Coraopolis, walking on the Sewickley Bridge toward Route 65. Police said Loy was fumbling, unsteady and appeared to be highly intoxicated.

He told police he was walking to the grocery store to get food then going to work in Sewickley. He was cited with public drunkenness and taken to the Coraopolis lock up until he could sober up.

Railroad mischief

Police received a report March 30 from Norfolk Southern of four juveniles running across the railroad tracks in the 800 block of Route 65. Police searched the area, but did not find the youth.

Criminal mischief report

Police said a teen with white hair and blue braces threw a rock Saturday at Crazy Mocha and broke a window. A group of teens who witnessed the incident gave a description of the youth, who they said ran away after the incident.

Gun request

Police spoke with a man Saturday on Green Street as he was about to enter the Pizza Roma bar with a hand gun on his belt. Police asked the man if he could pull his shirt over the gun when he entered, and the man wanted to know why. Police said it was understood he was not breaking the law, and had the right to carry it in plain view, but that it would be logically prudent to cover the weapon so as not to cause alarm in the bar. The man told police he did not necessarily agree but would comply with the request, police said.

Expired inspection

Police cited Samuel Brode, 28, of Glenshaw, with having an expired inspection after his pickup was stopped Sunday on Quaker Road in Edgeworth. 

Domestic dispute

Police were called Sunday to the 300 block of Chadwick Street for a report of a domestic dispute. Police said there was no sign of a physical fight, but learned that two upset parents verbally argued with their son because he shaved his head for the Locks of Love program for children with cancer.

Shots fired report

Police responded March 25 to the area of Maple Lane and Chestnut Street for a report of shots fired. Through interviews, police learned that a man in a pickup threw a fire cracker out of his window, making a loud bang, before he sped off. 

Garbage can

Police were dispatched to the Sewickley Bridge Saturday for a report of a garbage can in the roadway. Police arrived, but did not find a garbage can. 

Identity theft

A Sewickley resident reported to police March 24 that she received a phone call from Best Buy asking wif she ordered a computer with her debit card to be delivered to Texas. She believed someone used her card without her permission and she put a freeze on the card with her bank, police said.
