Sewickley Police Deal With a String of Car Break-Ins

Overnight thefts occurred in Backbone Road, Centennial Avenue and Nevin Avenue neighborhoods.

is warning residents to keep their cars and windows secure following a rash of recent vehicle break-ins throughout the borough.

Following a recent , police received a number of vehicle break-in reports overnight Thursday in the Nevin Avenue, Centennial Avenue and Backbone Road neighborhoods, along with a home burglary report. A laptop, global position systems and cash were among the items stolen.

  • A resident in the 600 block of Nevin Avenue reported Thursday that his laptop and Garmin GPS was taken from his vehicle sometime overnight. The resident believed he left the vehicle unlocked and police couldn’t find any evidence of forced entry or damage to the car. The laptop is described as a Dell D630 with a sticker that says “Thermo Fisher Global IT.”
  • Police received another theft report from a resident in the 300 block of Backbone Road. Sometime after 9:30 p.m. Wedndesday someone went inside the unlocked vehicle and took a TomTom GPS, $20 in cash and change, and a baby gift the victim’s wife left inside the car. Police said no one forced their way inside and the vehicle wasn't damaged.
  • A third resident in the 300 block of Backbone Road reported to police at 3 p.m. Thursday that she believed someone was inside her parked car in the driveway sometime between 5 and 5:45 a.m. that morming. Police said nothing was missing from the car, including a $10 roll of quarters although everuthing was taken out of the glove box and center console. The resident told police she did not lock her doors.
  • Police said a resident came to the station at 10:45 a.m. Thursday to report money had been stolen from her unlocked ty vehicle. Police said the theft occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Aug. 31 and 8 a.m. Sept. 1 in the 200 block of Centennial Avenue, where a total of $28 was taken, including $3 in loose quarters.
  • On Friday, police received a report that someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Lake Street while the resident was away. Police said the resident had this happen before. The first incident was in June, police said, when the resident discovered some items had been moved in the home. On two other occasions, the resident found cabinet doors left open. Most recently, police said costume jewelry was missing. Police advised the resident to keep the windows locked.
