Sewickley Police Handle Theft Reports at YMCA

Police responded to the following recent calls.

Two Sewickley Valley YMCA patrons recently reported wallets stolen from their lockers while they were working out.

Police said a 54-year-old Moon Township woman reported at 3:15 p.m. May 7 that her wallet was taken from an unlocked locker near the swimming pool area.

A staff member later called to notify her that the wallet was found in the trash. Police said $12 was missing.

Police said the victim was worried about identifty theft because her wallet also contained credit cards and a driver’s license.

Shortly after 3 p.m. the same day, a61-year-old Moon Township woman also reported a theft from her locker.

Police said the woman secured her locker only to come back and discover the padlock opened and her wallet missing from her purse. She reported the theft to staff, who discovered the wallet a short time later in a garbage can. Police said $8 was missing.

Sewickley Police responded to the following recent incidents. Each reflects police records and is not an indication of guilt.

Suspicious persons 

Police responded to a May 8 call about a man riding a bicycle around the business district at 2 a.m. in the rain. Police learned the man was in town visiting a relative.

On May 2, police said a Sewickley woman was confronted by a suspicious man who followed her outside the library at 2:30 p.m to offer her help finding a job.  He told her to follow him to his car and when they reached it, he insisted she get inside. She kept refusing and walked away. 

Railroad crossing reports

Police were called May 6 to the railroad crossing on Railroad Avenue at Route 65 in Glen Osborne for a report of a truck crash involving the crossing arm. Police said Michael Tustin of Finleyville, PA was driving through the railroad gates and was halfway through when the gate came down on the trailer he was pulling.

Police were again called May 9 to Railroad Street  for a report of a traffic signal, guard rail and railroad crossing sign that was knocked over by a tractor-trailer while attempting to turn around.  The driver Jeffrey D. Miener of Antioch, TN was cited with leaving the scene of an accident.

Raccoon stranded

Police were called May 11 to the 500 block of Grant Street regarding a baby raccoon stranded at the base of a tree. Police said the caller had already set up a dog carrier and the raccoon went inside to seek shelter before the officer arrived.

Criminal mischief report

Police responded May 8 to the 100 block of Bradley Lane for a criminal mischief report involving a painted sidewalk. The officer spoke to the resident who was upset about his property being defaced and wanted something to be done.

Police said the officer saw what appeared to be a child scribbling with sidewalk chalk and tried to explain the sidewalk chalk would disappear once it rains. Police said the neighbors were politely asked to stay off the property.

Fire call

Police and fire officials responded shortly after noon May 11 at the Union Aid Apartments for a fire alarm. Fire officials said the alarm was found to be from burnt food.
