Three More Women Accuse Dr. Thomas Tyma of Inappropriate Touching

Physician now charged in 14 cases involving exams at Wexford office.

On the heels of a preliminary hearing in which 10 women testified that Dr. Thomas Tyma fondled them during physical exams, police have filed additional charges against him stemming from allegations made by three more women.

The Northern Regional Police Department on Monday filed those charges in magisterial district court. The doctor now is charged in 14 cases in which women patients said he touched, squeezed or massaged their breasts during physical exams at Allegheny North Arthritis Center in Wexford.

In each case, police have charged the doctor, a Sewickley resident, with indecent assault and harassment.

The women are not identified because they are alleged victims of sexual assault.

Magisterial District Judge Regis Welsh presided over Friday's preliminary hearing and ordered the 53-year-old doctor to stand trial on 10 counts each of indecent assault and harassment in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.

After an 11th woman decided not to pursue the allegations, the judge dismissed charges in her case. A 12th woman could not attend to testify at Friday's hearing, so the charges in her case were dismissed and refiled Monday.

The latest allegations are similar to those made earlier by the other women, said Northern Regional Police Chief Robert Amann.

Officer Scott Rick is the investigating officer.
