Sewickley Police Charge Driver in Hit and Run

A 72-year-old Pittsburgh woman has been cited with leaving the scene of an accident after she caused a hit and run crash in the parking garage at Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital.

Police said a witness watched Aug. 22 as Marilyn Simon parked next to a car belonging to Monique Genzler of Ambridge and caused damage to the entire side of Genzler’s vehicle.

Police said a witness also took down Simon’s license plate. Genzler told police she wanted to press charges. Police said contacted Simon was contacted and agreed to come to the police station. The damage on her car was consistent with damage on the other car, police said.

Crash report

A Monaca man was cited with a red light violation after a three-vehicle crash. The Aug. 21 crash happened on Route 65 at Walnut Street when police said David Halama, 55, ran the red light on 65 and struck a vehicle driven by Denise Gedeon, 44, of Sewickley, as she proceeded off Walnut S. The impact pushed Gedeon’s vehicle into a third car driven by G. Whitney Snyder, 51, of Pittsburgh.  Gedeon’s passenger and Snyder complained of injuries and were evaluated by medics.

Animal calls

Police responded Sunday, Sept. 2 to a home in the 200 block of Broad Street for a report of a bat in the house. Police said officers disposed of the bat.  Police also responded Aug. 27 for a report of an unknown animal in the house. Police checked the house and found nothing. 

Overflowing creek

Police were called Saturday, Sept. 1 to Water Works Road in reference to the creek overflowing onto the roadway. An officer arrived and removed debris, which was obstructing the water flow into a pipe.  The water receded, police said.

Stolen property

Police received a report that someone took four snow tires worth $400 from the trunk of a vehicle. Police responded Aug. 29 to the 800 block of Thorn Street to take the report. Police said the owner wasn’t sure if the incident happened in Sewickley or on the South Side. An estimated $90 damage was caused to a vehicle lock.

A Pittsburgh Steeler license plate was stolen from the front bumper of a pickup while it was parked on Washington Street. The plate is worth $25 and the Steeler frame around the plate is worth $5. 

Lost property

Police were called Aug. 28 to the 400 block of Beaver Street to take a report of a lost wedding ring. Police described the ring as a large gold wedding band with the words “Invent & Commit” inscribed on it with the date 3/29/92. Anyone with information 

Heroin bust

Police on Aug. 29 stopped a car driven by Terrance Christian for a faulty exhaust system. Police said officers could see stamp bags of heroin coming from the opened driver’s side door. During a search, police said Sewickley’s K-9 Tripp made a positive alert on the passenger door seam. Police said officers found a total of 23 stamp bags of heroin and 6 empty stamp bags.
