Woman Dies After Jet Ski Capsizes on the Ohio River

Melissa Mason, 24, of Aliquippa was pronounced dead after a jet ski capsized near a dam on the Ohio River.

A woman was killed Sunday afternoon and a man taken to the hospital after a jet ski capsized on the Ohio River, KDKA reported.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the woman as Melissa Mason, 24, of Aliquippa.

She and a male companion were taken to where she was later pronounced dead. Information on the man's condition was unavailable Sunday night.

According to KDKA, Mason and her male companion were pulled from the water just before 4 p.m. near the after witnesses heard someone calling for help and found the two in the water.

Witnesses told KDKA they the jet ski looked like a fishing bobber bouncing up and down.

A family told KDKA they cut their anchor to use the lines, but Mason was unable to grab onto anything so they used a hook from the boat to grab the back of her life vest.

Mason was given CPR all the way back to shore before the two were rushed to the hospital, according to KDKA.
