Drozd Seeks Re-election to Allegheny County Council

Drozd was first elected in 2005 to represent Council District 1, which includes Aleppo, Glen Osborne, Glenfield and Haysville.

Incumbant Republican Matt Drozd is seeking a third term for the District 1 seat on Allegheny County council. 

The district is comprised of Aleppo, Ben Avon, Coraopolis, Emsworth, Findlay, Glen Osborne, Glenfield, Haysville, Kilbuck, Moon, North Fayette, Ross and West View. 

The following is the statement Drozd released when announcing his re-election bid:

Matt Drozd will be running for another term on County Council.  Matt has a long history of service to our country and extensive experience in both the business and public sectors. He ran a small international company and while working for a regional economic development group, he was instrumental in helping to create approximately 20,000 jobs for Southwestern Pennsylvania. He was also a former Program Controller for ABC World News, working alongside such notable newscasters as Peter Jennings. As one of the top fund raisers for Penn State University, he raised over $20 million to benefit college students who would not have been able to gain a college education if it were not for the scholarship monies he raised.

Matt also has an extensive military background. As a result of his dedicated service to his country, he was promoted from a private in the United States Army to a Lt Colonel in the Air Force.  He provided critical information to NORAD for the defense of our country while serving at the Pentagon following the terrorist attack on the Pentagon and the World trade centers.  As a Lt Colonel in the Air Force Reserves; he served for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense, and at the State Department. He also formulated homeland security plans that helped protect our country following the 911 terrorist attacks. Matt Drozd has continually volunteered for active duty and deployed overseas twice to protect our foreign embassies and troops against terrorism.  He was one of three brothers to serve in Korea. He helped coordinate the care and air evacuation of wounded military members when the USS Cole was attacked by terrorists. Along with numerous commendations and administrative awards, Matt has twice received the Defense Meritorious Service Decoration and numerous other military decorations.

Matt and his family are long-time residents of the Hills and is very active in many community, veteran groups, and athletic organizations.  He attends various church services throughout the North Hills on a weekly basis.  He has always voted the concerns of his constituents by voting NO to any and all tax increases, fighting against the useless tunnel under the river, and even tried to reduce taxes. While serving on the North Hills School Board, he worked tirelessly against tax increases and saved taxpayers over $50 million dollars.  Matt holds a Bachelors & Masters degrees in Business Administration from Duquesne University and has taught in the graduate schools of the University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris.
