House Adopts Two Resolutions Designating Wine Month and Credit Union Week

State Rep. Rob Matzie authored the two resolutions.

The state House of Representatives unanimously adopted two resolutions authored by state Rep. Rob Matzie.

House Resolution 463 designates the month of October 2013 as “Wine, Wineries, and Grapes Month” in Pennsylvania. The state currently has 114 licensed wineries, which have recently started to become recognized across the country for their quality of wines.

According to the Pennsylvania Winery Association, the production of grapes for wines and juices contributed approximately $2.35 billion to the state economy in 2007 and those figures have increased.

“Pennsylvania wines and winemakers are invaluable to our regional economy,” Matzie said in a news release. “The industry keeps close to 11,000 individuals gainfully employed, and increases the reputation of our state nationally, which is why I sponsored the resolution.”

House Resolution 464 designates the week of Oct. 15 through Oct. 21 as “Credit Union Week” in Pennsylvania. Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that are owned by their members. The state has 438 credit unions, which service the financial needs of 3.3 million members associated through local, state, regional and international organizations.

“Credit unions deserve recognition for the role they play in the commonwealth’s and the country’s financial industry. They provide families with financial tools they need for the various stages of their lives and serve as an economic catalyst for growth by supporting the needs of businesses, especially small business,” Matzie said. “Credit unions attempt to improve the future by uniting their members, and the results speak for themselves.”

Matzie represents the 16th District, which includes Leetsdale, Ambridge, Leet Township, and Bell Acres.
