Incumbents Receive Support at the Polls in Leet, Sewickley Hills

Most current board members will retain their positions in Sewickley Valley communities.

will see no change on its board of commissioners, while a Sewickley Hills candidate has claimed two seats, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s general election.

Democratic newcomer James Janaszek came close to victory by drawing 149 votes, or 19.43 percent for one of three 4-year terms on the Leet Township commission. Commissioner John J. Stephansky, also a Democrat, squeaked just ahead with 178 votes, or 23.21 percent.

Unofficial results showed Commission President Gary L. Bradel, a Republican, cruised to victory with 252 votes, or 32.86 percent, while Commissioner David A. Case tallied 188 votes, or 24.51 percent.

Over in , Republican Councilwoman led with 80 votes, or 52.63 percent, for one two-year seat while Councilman , an Independent candidate, drew 61 votes, or 40.13 percent.

As one of two candidates on the ballot for two four-year seats, Phillips also captured one of those seats with 108 votes, or 42.86 percent. Betsy Rengers was nominated as a Democratic write-in candidate and received 115 votes, or 45.63 percent, according to unofficial results.

Phillips will have to choose between the seats. If she chooses the four-year seat,  the new council will have to appoint someone to fill the two-year seat she also won, according to officials at the county Elections Bureau.
