Leetsdale Moves Council Meeting To Tonight

Tuesday's council meeting was postponed until 7 p.m. for heat-related reasons.

Leetsdale Council  its regularly scheduled workshop meeting Tuesday night after the office was closed most of the day due to a malfunctioned air conditioning system.

Council Vice President Michael Bajsec said the borough’s computer servers were turned off earlier in the day due to the rising heat in the office, and preparations for Tuesday’s meeting could not be completed.

Although the meeting was brought to order, it was immediately continued to 7 p.m. tonight and adjourned.

No business was conducted.

A late Monday-afternoon storm that swept through the area brought high winds and lightning that to Leetsdale and other surrounding communities. 

Power at most places was back on Monday night into Tuesday morning, including service at the borough building and police station.

Duquesne Light reported Tuesday that fewer than 100 customers remained without power as of 6 p.m., none in the Sewickley Valley.

Joey Vallarian, Duquense Light spokesman, said power to those customers was expected to be restored no later than 11 p.m. Tuesday. Approximately 12,000 customers were without power at the height of the storm. 

In addition to council, Leetsdale Municipal Authority has also experienced recent meeting changes. The authority's July and August meetings have also been cancelled due to lack of a quorum over the summer.

The next regular municipal authority meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 19.
