Leetsdale Purchases More Than $200,000 in Equipment, Raises Rental Fees

The borough is buying a new dump truck and garbage truck.

Leetsdale Council has unanimously agreed to spend $231,202 for two new municipal trucks.

All members of council attended and voted at their regular meeting Thursday night.

The borough will buy a 2012 International 7400SAD garbage truck from Beaver Valley Truck Center for $157,727. The new vehicle will replace the 20-year-old truck now in use.

When the new trucks are delivered, the borough will attempt to sell its old vehicles.

Council also voted 9-0 to change its depository from Citizens Bank to PNC Bank.

Michael Bajsec, chairman of council's finance committee, said the borough would receive better service as a result of the change. It will no longer be charged for checks and deposits slips, he said.

“Considering how much money we have in the bank, I think that’s a small thing to ask,” Bajsec said.

Council also voted unanimously to raise rental fees for its Henle Park pavilions and the community room in the borough building.

Councilman Robert Cobourne said Leetsdale residents now will pay $75 to rent a pavilion, up from $50. Non-residents now will be charged $175 for the same rental, an increase of $100. In each case, renters will be refunded $25.

Fees for use of the borough’s community room also changed.  Non-residents will now be charged $200 to use the room for up to eight hours. The category of sponsored non-resident was eliminated for rentals.

“We’re not in the ballgame to make a lot of money from this,” Cobourne said. “We want to be affordable for residents, but also break even.”
