U.S. Reps Murphy, Kelly Accepted Contributions from NRA in 2012 House Campaigns

Open Secrets has published a list of recipients of National Rifle Association campaign contributions that also includes outgoing U.S. Reps. Mark Critz of Johnstown and Jason Altmire of McCandless, both Democrats.

U.S. Reps Tom Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair), Mark Critz (D-Johnstown), Jason Altmire (D-McCandless) and Mike Kelly (R-Butler) of Pennsylvania accepted thousands in 2012 campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

The NRA doled out more than $750,000 in campaign contributions in 2012, according to the center, a research organization that tracks money in politics and how it affects elections and policies and shares the information on OpenSecrets.org. The center obtained its data from the Federal Election Commission.

Fifteen members of Congress from Pennsylvania accepted contributions from the NRA during their 2012 bids for office, according to the center's list. Three of the top five are from Western Pennsylvania, accepting a combined total of $11,000 in contributions.

Murphy topped the list, accepting a $5,000 contribution during his successful campaign to retain his seat in District 18.

Critz, the outgoing Democrat, is third on the center's list with a $3,500 contribution from the NRA. After serving one term in the House of Representatives, Critz lost his re-election bid in an aggressive race with Sewickley Republican Keith Rothfus for the seat in the newly formed District 12.

Fifth on the list is Altmire, with a $2,500 contribution. The three-term congressman lost his seat earlier this year in a primary race with Critz after a GOP-led redistricting effort reshaped their districts and forced them to run against each other. He has accepted a new position with Florida Blue, that state's Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurer.

Kelly, a Republican, is ninth on the center's list, with a $2,000 contribution. The Butler County car dealer, whose district includes Cranberry, defeated Democrat Missa Eaton and independent candidate Steven Porter to retain his seat in the 3rd District.

Your points about the "entertainment"/slop industry are excellent. No, the president has not mentioned that, at least not yet. If he chooses to ignore it, we will not be able to tackle and attempt to solve the gun homicide epidemic as there is no one cause for it nor any simple step we can take to stem it. Charles Krauthammer has an excellent column about this issue in today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/opinion/perspectives/charles-krauthammer-getting-at-the-roots-of-mass-murder-will-require-difficult-trade-offs-667400/

Obama is nothing but A hypocrit. It was the justice department under his administration that came up with the disaster called "Fast and Furious" A failed program to catch Drug Cartels and Drug Runners by tracking firearms. What happeened? They lost thousands of assault weapons to the cartels and smugglers, weapons being used to attack and kill american law enforcement. Gun control he says, huh?

Why would we need a new Gun Law. There are numerous gun laws that have not stopped the killings. It is mental illness that is killing people. The state closed the mental hospital and there will always be mental ill people that should live in a supervised home. It is up o the state to help the mentally ill..Accepting contributions from NRA is not a crime. US Rep. Murphy will always get my vote.

I don't even know why this article was written their is nothing wrong in believing in the second amendment. What about all the good work Rep. Murphy has done for this area. If a contribution from the NRA helped keep Murphy in office I for one say thank you.

Need to see how much illegal money flowed into the Obama campaign via illegal out of country contributions through bundles on website designed to hide and conceal the true identity of the so called donors! Started with Bill Clinton and the chinese communists and has been perfected by Obama!
