Reorganizations Bring New Beginnings to Local Municipalities in 2012

Leetsdale Council appoints new officers; other boards change meeting schedules.

At the start of every new year, government bodies hold annual reorganization meetings to swear-in newly elected members, name board officers, set meeting schedules and conduct other business.  

 moved to make the most changes in 2012. 

In Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting,  appointed Joseph McGurk president and Wes James vice president. Council voted to dissolve the administrative positions of manager, senior clerk and junior clerk.

Manager Paul Scimio and junior clerk Sandy Bajsec were removed from their positions.

Elizabeth Petalino was reinstated as borough secretary and treasurer. She is also in charge of collecting the local service tax. Council also hired a new solicitor, Megan M. Ott of  Pittsburgh-based Goehring, Rutter and Boegm. She replaces former solicitor Richard Start. Council also reopened the 2012 budget and has until Feb. 15 to make changes.

Regular meetings will continue to take place at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month, with workshop meetings taking place the Tuesday before the regular meeting at the borough building, 136 Broad St.

Regular meetings, however, have been changed to the second Wednesday in January and February due to a scheduling conflict for new council members attending courses on government. Regular meetings will take place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11 and Feb. 8.

 

Other local reorganizations: 

Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting was postponed due to the weather. The reorganization will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 during the workshop meeting at the township building, 100 North Ave.

 

At Monday night's reorganization meeting, Bell Acres Council reappointed Dennis Young president and David Renfrew vice president. The council will continue to meet at 7 p.m. the second Monday of the month at the , 1850 Big Sewickley Creek Road. 

 

The reorganization will take place before the regular meeting, which begins at 8 p.m. Jan. 17 at the borough building, 301 Beaver Road.

 

The reorganization will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Park in Glenfield.

Amy Paff Forero was appointed council president and Linda Ribnicky vice president during the reorganization meeting Tuesday. Forero succeeds her mother, Catherine Paff, as president. Catherine Paff served as president for 12 years and remains on council, serving a four-year term.

Meetings have been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month at , 1414 Beaver Road.

 

Gary Bradel was reappointed president and Wayne E. Hyjek vice president during Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting. Leet will continue to have monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the second Monday at the township municipal complex, 198 Ambridge Ave.

 

Sewickley Council reappointed Robert Hague president and Susan Aleshire vice president in Monday night’s reorganization meeting. William Cornman was reappointed as president pro-tem. Also, James Morrill, Thomas DeFazio, William Cornman and Robert Glenn. Maleet Gordon was also sworn in as tax collector. Carole Ford will be sworn in before the meeting on Jan. 10.

The board set the meeting schedule in December. Regular meetings take place at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of every month at the municipal building, 601 Thorn St. Committee of the whole meetings will continue to be held at 7:30 p.m. the Tuesday before the regular meeting.

  

Sewickley Heights Council reappointed S. Phil Hundley president and John K. Means vice president. Meetings will continue to be held at 4:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the .

 

Sewickley Hills Council reappointed Tom Klixbull president and Cynthia Phillips vice president. Phillips, Betsy Rengers and Chris Cox were sworn in. Cox was appointed to serve a two-year term replacing Klaus Gross, who resigned Dec. 12 from council and the planning commission due to work conflicts. Meetings were rescheduled to take place at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday at the , 349 Magee Road.
