Route 65 Reopens Following Rockslide

PennDOT had shut down the northbound lanes since Wednesday.

After nearly a week of detours, PennDOT today reopened a section of Route 65 north that was shut down last week following a rockslide.

According to Jim Struzzi, PennDOT spokesman, work to remove debris above northbound Route 65 --  about one-quarter mile north of the I-79 interchange in Glenfield Borough --  was completed this afternoon.

Struzzi said the roadway was now fully reopened to traffic.

Officials last Wednesday closed Route 65 in both directions as a precaution after a slide occurred along the northbound lanes.

Contractor crews cleaned up the debris,  allowing the southbound lanes to reopen later. Using a crane, workers spent a few days removing a large amount of rock debris that threatened to slide off a hillside above Route 65.

During the closing, I-79 south traffic was detoured to northbound Route 51 and onto the Sewickley Bridge. About 14,000 vehicles use this section of northbound Route 65 on an average day.
