Sewickley Hills Appoints New Councilman, Borough Secretary

Sewickley Hills Borough continues to experience personnel shifts this month as its officials filled three key vacancies.

Council on Monday swore in Christopher Cox of Pacer Drive as its newest member. He replaces Noah Fardo, who last month.

In a brief statement to council, Cox, who owns Cox Automotive in Ohio Township, said he brings experience in small-business ownership.

“I like how things are being run here, and I would like to keep it that way,” he said.

Last month, the sent notices to all residents seeking volunteers for the unpaid council position.

After taking his oath of office, Cox immediately joined the rest of council and voted on several items.

He will serve for a six-month term, which ends in December 2011.

In other business, council voted 4-0 to hire Diana B. Steele of Leet Township as the borough’s part-time , at a rate of $390 per week. Councilwoman Kim Holzer was absent.

Steele will work 26 hours per week and will be paid an additional $50 for each municipal meeting that she attends. Among other duties, she will be responsible for drafting minutes and preparing agendas.

Steele was formerly an office manager at Wexford-based Trant Corporation.

Also Monday, Treasurer Larry Hermes was back on the job after rescinding the resignation he submitted last month.

He said he is continuing to analyze the borough’s accounts by using a balance-sheet approach and reported on Monday night that he was able to reconcile all cash accounts after examining data dating back to 2005.
