Award-Winning Poet to Give Reading at Sewickley Academy

The free event begins at 7 p.m. in Gregg Theater and is open to the public.

Award-winning poet Terrance Hayes will make a special appearance Thursday for a “Night of Poetry” at Sewickley Academy.

The free event begins at 7 p.m. in Gregg Theater and is open to the public.

Hayes, a professor of creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University, is the author of “Wind in a Box,” “Hip Logic” and “Muscular Music.” In 2010, his book “Lighthead” won the National Book Award.

His books are available for pre-sale at the in Sewickley and Hayes will sign books after the poetry reading, which is part of the Sewickley Series.

Hayes will recite poems from old and new collections. In addition to the free poetry reading, Hayes will conduct a poetry workshop with five students and five Summerbridge Pittsburgh students from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
