Cornell Players Combine With Quaker Valley Football

Players are to start working together as a team on Jan. 3, when weight training begins.

Cornell football players will join the Quaker Valley team starting next year through a cooperative sponsorship agreement, according to  school officials.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association last week approved the agreement at its Board of Control meeting.

Members of the met earlier last week to get acquainted, disitrict officials said.

“We wanted the team members to meet and understand what the future holds for them," said .  "We believe this can be a success partnership since both teams have talent; through teamwork this new program could have a great season next year. There will be some adjustments but we have confidence in these young men and how they will be able to adapt.”

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Cornell has disbanded its high school football program.

Quaker Valley officials say that decreased participation was largely the reason. Without the cooperative venture, the remaining Raiders would not have had a place to play, district officials said.

Because both schools are small, the administrations believe the combined team will not be too large yet will create a competitive balance, which should produce a stronger team as a result.

Players from both schools are to start working together as a team on Jan. 3, when weight training begins.
