Video Contest

Steeltown Entertainment Project's Take a Shot at Changing the World video contest has come to an end, with more than 20 high schools and middle schools participating from around the Pittsburgh area, including

Voting ends today! Anyone can go to www.takeashotcontest.org and view this year's entries and vote for their favorites. On May 20 at the Heinz History Center, the first annual Take a Shot Film Festival will screen some of this year's entries and the winners will be announced. The film festival is free and open to the public.

Movie Shoot

Out of the Furnance, starring Oscar-winner Christian Bale, is looking for men of background to serve as extras in the film.

Men should be age 35 or older and available to shoot on or around May 29, according to WTAE. Extras will be needed on set all day (between 12 to 14 hours) and will be paid minimum wage.

If you fit the bill, send an email with a recent photo (preferably one where you’re not smiling), contact information and age to outofthefurnaceextras@gmail.com. "Slavic Man" should be used in the subject line. Casting agents will notify those who have been chosen, WTAE reports.

Job Fair Today

Looking for a job and hoping to meet potential employers face-to-face?

A group of 23 independent insurance agencies is hosting a job fair from 4 to 7 p.m. on today, May 15, at the Four Points by Sheraton, Pittsburgh North, at 910 Sheraton Drive in Mars.

The agencies are seeking sales and customer professionals, according to a press release from Brooke Baldonieri of Kattan-Ferretti Insurance in Latrobe.

Pre-registration is not required, but attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes. Other dates this week:

  • from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh, Southpointe, 1000 Corporate Drive in Canonsburg, and
  • from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, at DoubleTree by Hilton, Monroeville Convention Center, 101 Mall Boulevard, Monroeville.
