Last Chance: Relay 'Cook for a Cure' and QV Sports Hall of Fame Nominations

QV Relay for Life's "Cooking for a Cure" is Saturday and QV Sports Hall of Fame nomination deadline is Monday, April 30.

The first "Cooking for a Cure" to benefit the American Cancer Society will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club.

Tickets are still available, but time is running out.

The event takes place in the Semple Ballroom and the cost is $75 per person--$40 is tax deductible--and includes appetizers, dinner and dessert. A cash bar will be offered in the McCormick Lounge.

Chef Martin Thomas of , a graduate of the Culinary Instituteof America in Hyde Park, NY, will be sharing his knowledge and using his farm-to-table cuisine. Chef Martin will a Mediterranean-style dinner guaranteed to please all palates.

Another highlight of the evening will be a talk from Mary Robb Jackson of KDKA. She will share her personal thoughts on being a cancer survivor.

QV Sports Hall of Fame Nomination Deadline Nears

The reinstatement of the has generated an enthusiastic response among alumni and community members supporting the plans and sharing their memories and passion for QV sports.  Although nomination process has been very productive, there is still time to nominate a well-deserving candidate before the April 30 deadline.

The first nominations will determine what teams and individuals will be inducted into the Class of 2012. Nomination categories are for athletes, coaches, contributors and teams.  Any nomination, which is not selected for this first class will automatically be included with the next round of nominations to be considered for future inductees. 

The Hall of Fame Weekend of activities is planned for Sept 28-30.  The weekend will begin with the presentation of the inductees at the varsity football game on Friday, Sept. 28 and culminate with the induction ceremony at a brunch on Sunday, Sept. 30 at . 

To nominate an individual or team for the Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame, complete a nomination form from the QVSD website, www.qvsd.org Athletics > QV Sports Hall of Fame, or request one from the QVHS athletic office by calling 412-749-6001.
