Leetsdale Resident Launches Petition to Protect Neighborhood

The petition opposes Quaker Valley School District plans to tear down three homes for a student drop off and parking lot.

A Leetsdale resident launched an online petition drive Monday against school district plans to purchase and demolish borough homes in the name of student safety. 

"Help us save our neighborhood and stop this unnecessary spending of our tax dollars," Leetsdale resident Sandra Ford urged potential supporters.

As of Monday night, the "Save Leetsdale" petition that Ford created had gathered six signatures from residents in and .

The petition is the latest opposition to come from Leetsdale, where residents have been in the 700 block of Beaver Street. 

Quaker Valley has purchased two properties and are in negotiations for a third for the purpose of a bus turnaround, parent drop-off zone and parking lot. School officials could not immediately be reached for comment Monday night.

According to the district's , the homes would have to be torn down to make way for the project, whic intends to address limited access to the high school and students being dropped off in traffic while buses are letting off.
