QV, Sweetwater Celebrate Youth Art Month

Support student art all May long as part of Youth Art Month.

From 6-8 p.m. tonight, eighth-grade students from will have "products" on display as part of a "Creative Showcase of Innovation" at Anthony Wayne School,  2001 Lenz Ave., Ambridge.

Each student has spent the year completing a project aimed at developing individual talent in coordination with his or her Exploratory classes.

Through each project, the student has explored a field of his or her own choosing and spent time working as a junior practitioner in the chosen field to create an original product authentic to that field.

Sweetwater is hosting “Life as an Artist” 

Over at , Quaker Valley eighth-grade students are showing what life as a professional artist is like by planning this showing of their work at Sweetwater.

The exhibition kicked off Tuesday and runs until May 11. The closing reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. May 11 and this event is free.

 

Edgeworth Art Show

Edgeworth will host its annual art showfrom 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10.

Come and enjoy artwork from all students in first through fifth grade while participating in interactive art displays.

Enjoy light refreshments and musical entertainment.

 

Exhibition: Student Art Competition

As part of May is Youth Art Month, Sweetwater is hosting its annual “Student Art Competition.” The sixth annual judged art competition is a chance for the community to enjoy the impressive talent of students from Sewickley area schools spanning kindergarten through high school. In each age group (kindergarten through

Second grade; third to fifth grade; sixth to eighth grade; ninth to 12th grade), Sweetwater will award one best in show prize and two honorable mention prizes.

This competition, sponsored by Sweetwater’s board of directors, is judged by a professional artist from the Pittsburgh area. The exhibition begins on May 18 and will run until June 15.

The opening reception is from 4 to 6 p.m. May 18. Awards will be given at 5 p.m. This event is free.

 

Art classes and camps

Sweetwater is now enrolling students for summer 2012 classes and camps, offering numerous classes in the visual, performing, literary, and culinary arts to both adults and children beginning at age 3.

Register before May 31, 2012 and receive 10 percent off the tuition. Use coupon code

“Summer12early10” when registering online. This excludes private music lessons and private art lessons.

Sweetwater does not offer reimbursement if coupon code is not used at the time of registration. Need-based scholarships are also available.
