NASA Astronaut Mike Fincke Plans Visit to Sewickley Academy

Fincke, a 1985 Academy alumnus and Sewickley native, will spend the day talking with students and meeting with faculty.

Col. Michael Fincke made history June 1 when he returned home on the Space Shuttle Endeavour's final flight as one of NASA's final spacewalkers.

Now the graduate and Emsworth resident plans to walk the grounds of his alma mater.

Fincke, a 1985 Academy alumnus and NASA astronaut, today will return to the academy to spend the day on campus talking with students, answering questions, and sharing his thoughts on the future of the shuttle and space exploration program, according to the academy's website.

He will also meet with science faculty members and will also have lunch with Head of School Kolia O’Connor and other guests.

Mandi Semple, Sewickley Academy’s director of public relations, said Fincke has visited the campus several times and the academy is pleased to welcome him back.

Fincke has spent a total of 381 days in space, surpassing the United States record of 377 days in space.
