first phase of renovations has wrapped up with the reopening of Frick Field on the campus of the private school in Edgeworth.

Students are now putting Frick Field to use for play, practices and games, according to academy officials, who say the field turf is for varsity, junior varsity and Middle School practices, as well as Lower School recess and intramurals.

Overall began nearly a year ago in February 2011. Since then, a new parking lot has opened on the corner of Beaver Road and Hazel Lane; a new loading area has opened for buses and delivery trucks; and the lower parking lot off Hazel Lane, near Frick Field, has been expanded. Frick Field was the final step in phase 1A.

While the dimensions of Frick Field are not large enough for regulation varsity soccer and lacrosse games, Middle School sports games and varsity softball and field hockey games will be played at Frick.

Students in all divisions are also welcome to use the field for play throughout the school day. The new turf field is also expected to alleviate overuse of Nichols Field.

"The new turf field will exponentially increase the educational opportunities for our students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12,” said Win Palmer, director of athletics.

“On the field is where our student-athletes learn fundamentals and strategies of sport, as well as gain confidence in their ability to compete and demonstrate leadership and teamwork. We are thrilled about the addition of the turf field.”
