Quaker Valley 2012 Back to School Guide

Quaker Valley freshman report to class on Sept. 4 while grades 10 through 12 return a day later on Sept. 5.

Aug. 30 and Sept. 4 - Laptop Training for Parents of New Students and Freshmen

Parents of new students and incoming freshmen are required to attend "Out of the Box" training pertaining to the district's student laptop computer initiative.

This mandatory training includes information regarding rules, regulations and proper care guidelines involved with having a computer.

Two sessions are provided in the :

  • 8 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, during Open House Night.
  • 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 during Freshmen Orientation Day.

Parents unable to attend either sessions must send a letter to the high school confirming they have viewed the web-based session "Laptop Presentation" slideshow found in the "Forms/Publications" section of the high school webpage. The presentation will be available on Thursday, Aug. 30.

Sept. 4 - Freshmen Orientation 

"Freshmen Orientation Day" at is only for students entering ninth grade, designated as a time for students to familiarize themselves with their new schedules, classes and teachers. Ninth graders will report to school at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 and buses will run on their regular schedule. 

 

Sept. 5 - First Day for Grades 10, 11 and 12

Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 will attend their first day on Wednesday, Sept. 5, and are encouraged to explore the following grade-level tasks before hand.

  • All 10th grade students should spend time reviewing the personal project information posted to the high school web site. Students should brainstorm potential topics and areas of interest to discuss during their individual meetings, which will be scheduled within the first few weeks of the school year.

  • All 11th and 12th grade students will use their login codes to access Family Connections and visit the "SAT/ACT Prep," "College Search" and "Scattergram" programs available online.
  • Seniors should also use the following features of Family Connections: "Resume," "Journaling," "Document Library" and "Scholarship List."
