The 1996 Quaker Valley boys soccer team will be inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame.
The team was announced as part of the 2013 class during a ceremony Wednesday at the Heinz History Center.
The 1996 team, led by Coach Gene Klein, was the section, WPIAL and PIAA champion and finished the season with a perfect 26-0 record. They are one of the few WPIAL teams to ever achieve this accomplishment.
They outscored their opponents 169-7 and recorded shutouts in 21 games. The team was voted the No. 1 team in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Klein was honored as the NSCAA National Coach of the Year. The team produced two National All-Americans, Chris Churchill and Brad Christof, as selected by the NSCAA. The nine seniors on the team won PIAA titles three out of four years with a record of 14-1 in PIAA
Quaker Valley Athletic Director Mike Mastroianni nominated the team.
The WPIAL selects inductees in six different categories. Quaker Valley was chosen under the "team" category.
Induction ceremonies will take place June 7 during a banquet ceremony at the Greentree Doubletree Hotel in Green Tree.
