Quaker Valley High School Prepares for Spring Musical, “Crazy for You”

Plans include a cabaret Saturday in the high school auditorium.

Anyone who plans to attend this year’s spring musical, “Crazy for You,” at Quaker Valley High School is in for a toe-tapping good time.

The show, which follows 1930s playboy Bobby Child’s dream to be a dancer, includes a cast of several talented tap dancers who have been rehearsing tirelessly with choreographer Mike Greer to perfect their moves.

Student producer Emily Resler said that although there are only seven designated tap dancers, Greer has “done a great job giving dance moves to everyone.” The cast performed a few of their dance numbers on Sunday during a mini show at St. James church and they “supposedly look great.”

Besides being heavy on dancing, the show is also heavy on men. “We have an open audition every year to see what kind of talent we have, and we surprisingly had a lot of guys this year,” said the show’s producer, Mary Lynn Pleczkowski.

Therefore, director Lou Valenzi looked for a musical with a lot of male parts and came up with George Gershwin’s inspired, “Crazy for You.”

Musical director Matthew Boice rehearses familiar classic Gershwin tunes with the cast, such as “I Got Rhythm,” “Embraceable You” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” that much of the audience will recognize.

“The last two years’ shows have been such hits that we had to keep up this year,” said Pleczkowski.

“’Crazy for You’ was a great choice because it’s family friendly and there’s something in it that appeals to almost everyone. It’s really funny, too!”
