Quaker Valley School Board President Resigns

The district is accepting letters of interest through Oct. 15.

Quaker Valley School Board president Jack Norris has submitted his resignation after a decade of service to the school district.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve with people who are dedicated to the mission of education,” Norris said in a news release. “I am impressed more and more that one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and our world is that of an educated citizenry.”

According to the district, Norris is in the process of relocating to Long Island, NY. He retired as managing director of CB Richard Ellis earlier this year.

The board regretfully accepted Norris’s resignation at its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

“Jack’s leadership has inspired me as well as taught me the importance of both listening and of finding patience at critical times,” Sarah Heres, board vice president, said in a news release. “His contribution to the Quaker Valley School District is evident in the strength of our academic program and the quality of our buildings.”

Norris joined the school board in 2003 and has served as board president since 2008. He has represented Region III, which includes Edgeworth, Aleppo, Glenfield, Haysville, Glen Osborne, Sewickley Heights and Sewickley Hills.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of the board and staff, and have appreciated being a part of the redevelopment of Edgeworth Elementary, Osborne Elementary and the new middle school,” Norris said. “These facilities have certainly facilitated the teaching/learning environment.”

The board plans to act within 30 days to appoint a replacement for the the remainder of Norris's term, which expires December 2015. The position will be on the ballot in the May 2015 primary.

The district is accepting letters of interest from registered voters in Region III who would like to be considered to serve on the school board. Letters of interest must be received by Tuesday, Oct. 15. The board plans to fill the seat during its Tuesday, Oct. 22 meeting.

“Ignorance and lack of moral character are the breeding ground for distress,” Norris said. “It is my hope that this board will continue to eschew policies and members who do not have the mission of education at the forefront and the best interests of our students as their first priority.”

Interested residents who live in Region III – Aleppop, Edgeworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Glen Osborne, Sewickley Heights or Sewickley Hills  – should forward a letter of interest and resume as well as any other relevant background information to:
