Quaker Valley School Lunch Prices Going Up

Prices must increase because of a federal mandate.

Quaker Valley students will have to pay 10 cents more for lunch next year.

All students will go from paying $2.50 to $2.60 for lunch while breakfast prices will remain at $1.50.

The school board approved the new meal prices during its meeting on Tuesday, June 25.

District officials said the price increase is necessary under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which requires participants of the National School Lunch Program to make efforts to equalize the cost of a federally reimbursed free lunch and breakfast and a fully paid lunch and breakfast.

Quaker Valley’s federal reimbursement was $2.92 for free lunch and $1.55 for free breakfast during the 2012-13 school year.

The law caps the required increase in the average paid meal price at 10 cents in any year.
