Quaker Valley Students Depart for Peru

This journey is the annual summer trip in which Senor Michael Haboush takes students to broaden their horizons in a Spanish-speaking country.

Twenty students departed Monday morning from Pittsburgh International Airport on an educational journey.  The students are headed to Peru and Machu Picchu with Señor Michael , Quaker Valley High School's Spanish teacher, and chaperones Erik Lindemann, Kerry McGrath and Evelyn Schurman.

Their 11-day itinerary includes exploring Lima’s archaeology, anthropology and architecture; visiting the Ollantaytambo’s fortress and Indian Market; climbing the steep steps to Intipunko and exploring Machu Picchu; rafting on the Urubama River; and visiting the Amazonian rainforest.

Haboush takes a group of students every year to a Spanish-speaking country. In addition to improving Spanish language skills, the trips allow students to study the beauty and culture of the country while learning firsthand the issues and concerns of its people, particularly its youth.
