Quaker Valley to Host a Series of Education Forums

Residents are invited to attend all three evenings.

Residents of the Quaker Valley School District are invited to participate in the district’s inaugural education forum – a series of three evenings that delve into the district’s educational programs and issues related to public education in Pennsylvania.

The district will host the events from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the following Wednesdays:  Nov. 6, Feb. 26 and April 2. The event will be hosted at one of the district’s schools and may vary based on the number of participants. Free childcare will be available.

The first education forum, set for Wednesday, Nov. 6, will focus on state and federal mandates, including a discussion about the new Pennsylvania School Performance Profile and other assessment data.

Participation on the forum is open to all – including students, parents, non-parent taxpayers, senior citizens, teachers, and business people or professionals who operate their businesses or practices within the school district.

Director of Academic Services Dr. Jillian Bichsel along with other administrators, faculty and community experts will help facilitate the discussion.  The forums are intended to be a discussion among attendees of programs, strategies, issues and challenges relevant to Quaker Valley School District.

“The concept of a forum that enables and encourages participation, discussion and questions from attendees is much more engaging and fulfilling for both attendees and the school district,” Bichsel said.

The educational focus for Feb. 26, will be educational technology. In addition to a panel discussion regarding technology in schools, topics will include Quaker Valley’s one-to-one initiative and online learning opportunities for students.

On April 2, the forum will feature a discussion about Quaker Valley’s philosophy of “one child at a time.” Topics will include how data are used to make decisions, flexibility for students, alternative pathways to graduation, collegiate affairs and talent development.

Those interested in participating in the education forum should click here to register online or contact Dr. Jillian Bichsel, director of academic services, at 412-749-3627 or email bichselj@qvsd.org.
