Quaker Valley Youth Wrestling Off To Strong Start

Quaker Valley Youth Wrestling kicked off its inaugural season with a bang.

The team started with tournaments at Cleveland, Moon, Hopewell, Chartiers Valley and South Side and has posted strong results, particularly for such an inexperienced team, according to Coach Jason Richey.   

"We are off to an unbelievable start," Richey said. "I dont think any of the coaches thought we would have so much success so soon. We just need to keep the momentum going, have fun and prepare for our conferences, matches, and tournaments that will take place in early 2013."   

Here's a summary of the team's success so far.

Cleveland—At the outset, seven Quaker valley wrestlers (six first-year wrestlers and one second-year wrestler) traveled to Cleveland, OH for one of the tougher preseason tournaments in the Midwest. The seven QV wrestlers totaled 18 wins and six of the wrestlers placed as follows:

1st Place:       Jack Diemert; Justin Richey
2nd Place:   Mason Steffey; Marcus Richey 
3rd Place:      Weston Grant; Logan Richey 


Moon—Next, the Quaker Youth Wrestling Team headed to Moon Area High School for a First Year Tournament sending approximately 30 first-year wrestlers, many of whom were wrestling for the first time ever.  

The Quakers dominated the tournament, winning approximately two out of every three matches. By far, Quaker Valley had the most wrestlers placing of any team at the Moon tournament first-year tournament. Of the 32 wrestlers, Quaker Valley had 25 wrestlers finish in the top four of their respective weight class as follows: 

1st Place: Weston Grant; Kaden Lynch; Nathan Woodside; Marcus Richey; Logan Richey; Mason Diemert

2nd Place:  Jack Diemert; Liam Davidson; Elajah Faulkner;  Luke Flowers; Christian Brown; Jakub Pickett; Braedan Steffey; Owen Petronik; Chris Woodside

3rd Place: Jackson Quigley; Gordon Merriman; Hunter Hoose; Tomasso Floro; Mason Steffey 

4th Place: Chase Augustin; Gryffin Hoose; Tegan Welsh; and Banyan Welsh; 


Hopewell—With about 17 wrestlers attending, QV won a significant amount of matches and had the following winners place:

1st Place -- Justin Richey, Elajah Faulkner, Marcus Richey; Nick Staka; Christian Brown.

2nd Place -- Tomasso Floro

3rd Place -- Logan Richey; Weston Grant

4th Place -- Bobby Patterson, Will Straka; Michael Carmody 

South Side—Finally, QV finished off 2012 with tournaments at South Side and Chartiers Valley with the following results:

1st Place -- Elijah Faulkner; Mason Steffey; Braedon Steffey

2nd Place -- Marcus Richey; Jack Kenneweg; Kadin Lynch

3rd Place -- Dylan Porter; Justin Richey ; Nate Carver; Jack Kazalas 

4th Place -- Jackson Quigley 

Chartiers Valley

1st Place -- Luke Flowers; Logan Richey

2nd Place -- Tomasso Floro; Jack Diemert; Marcus Richey; Justin Richey; Kadin Lynch; Mason Steffey

3rd Place -- Elijah Faulkner

4th Place -- Christian Brown
