Kuzma provided a statement announcing the reasons for his candidacy:

"While I was a student, I had the opportunity to apply to participate in a new program that Quaker Valley was starting, which was to have a student representative to the school board.

After an application and interview process I was selected as the first student representative, which I served from 2000 to 2001.

Part of the role was to tour each school in the district and interview each of the principals. I reported to the district on concerns of students and administration at each of the schools, which really introduced me to how important it is to efficiently communicate information between the community and school board.

Overall it was a great experience and I am really fortunate I was able to participate in the program.

In 2009, I was selected by the Leetsdale Borough Council to become a member of the Municipal Authority Board and am currently the vice chairman.

This has also been a good opportunity for community service and helped me gained experience in local government.

I decided to run for QV school board because of my past experience in these local government offices and because I want the school board to be a responsive body that listens to the needs of the community.

Recently, the Sewickley Herald reported that the school district has a $192,000 deficit. If elected, I would like to help balance the budget in a responsible way that takes into account the needs of students without raising taxes."
