QV Renews Superintendent's Contract

Dr. Joseph Clapper's new contract expires Dec. 31, 2016.

Quaker Valley Superintendent Joseph Clapper will retain the top spot in the district for another five years.

The school board voted earlier this week to renew Clapper’s contract, to be effective Jan. 1, 2012 through Dec. 31, 2016. The contract has been agreed to in principle, but details are not complete.

Clapper joined the staff as principal of Edgeworth Elementary School in 1993, according to district officials. He was promoted to assistant superintendent in 1999.

In the spring of 2005,  Clapper left Quaker Valley to serve as superintendent of the North Hills School District but returned  in 2007 to Quaker Valley as the district’s fourth superintendent in its 55-year history.

During a school board meeting Tuesday night, Clapper’s years of hard work in the district didn’t go unnoticed.

School Director Debbie Miller, chairwoman of the personnel committee, said the board was very pleased to have Clapper as the superintendent.

“Good luck!” one board member jokingly said after the vote, referring to a difficult road ahead, particularly with this year’s .

Jack Norris, school board president, said in a news release that Clapper has provided excellent leadership to the district in the face of significant challenges.

“In just a few short years, he has guided our district through contract negotiations, the relocation of administrative offices, the current middle school construction project and the expansion of educational programming as well as the challenges created by school funding issues,” Norris said.

In a statement, Clapper said he is “delighted to continue to serve the students and families of the Quaker Valley School District.

“The Quaker Valley school board and community consistently demonstrate a commitment to high-quality education – I am honored to work with such dedicated individuals,” he said.
